Virtual Desktops suffer from poor performance for a variety of reasons. First, virtual desktop deployments are far more complex than simple Remote Desktop Protocol connections. Optimizing computing, storage and network resources within the scope of a given budget and existing network is not trivial. Secondly, graphically rich applications demand larger amounts of bandwidth, while low-latency connections are necessary to deliver a rich user experience. Lastly, the virtual desktops are often hosted far from the end user, putting even more demands on network performance.
netPulz VDI solves all of these issues, by using a distributed computing model for the deployment of multiple On Premises Private VDI Clouds close to the end users, that include the netPulz networking layer for creating LAN’s and WAN’s, without the need for additional network gear.
Since the netPulz VDI software is optimized to run on Commercially Available Off-The-Shelf (“COTS”) hardware which have no special cooling or power requirements, these small, dispersed private clouds can be placed in a closet. Each floor in an office building, for example, can have a small cluster of servers hosting virtual desktops for the users on that floor, other floors and even in adjacent buildings. These individual VDI private clouds are connected to each other in a mesh network.
A Hub and Spoke Network topology connects the individual private clouds to centralized Command and Control private cloud for monitoring and administration. There can be multiple Command and Control private clouds. The netPulz networking software supports any topology, and includes connection the private clouds to third party clouds such as AWS, Azure, etc., that may host desktops as DaaS.
Having the virtual desktops hosted in close proximity to the end users reduces network latency and bottlenecks that choke performance as often occurs when desktops are only deployed in third party clouds or as part of a centralized on premises deployment. Deployments such as these require huge amounts of computing resources and network bandwidth to overcome these limitations. By distributing the computing resources over multiple on premises clouds and taking advantage of the natural network segmentation offered by moving the VDI cloud close to the end user, the issues of network latency and bottlenecks are eliminated.
Moreover, since netPulz VDI is hosted on COTS hardware and inexpensive storage, when additional computing resources are required, servers are simply added to the cloud incrementally as needed. Doing so is inexpensive, increases resource utilization and boosts ROI.
All the virtual desktops are also accessible from the WAN, and the netPulz VDI thin and fat clients have the netPulz networking technology embedded in them. As all connections are encrypted, broadband Internet connections may be used, and such connections provide abundant and inexpensive bandwidth. The netPulz networking in the VDI clouds utilize application and network tuning tools with connection multiplexing, bandwidth aggregation, failover and load balancing available for superior WAN performance. All of these features are also used for connecting to desktops hosted by third party DaaS cloud providers.
